Features New Country Star of The Year
![]() |
Carrie Underwood's new video "So Small," is sure to be a hit with New Country Star fans. The video which can now be seen on CMT, features Christian Kane, 2006 New Country Star of The Year. As most Christian Kane fans know, this is not his first go at acting, which made him the perfect fit for this dramatic roll in Underwood's new video. Underwood and Kane are both signed with divisions of Sony BMG Music Entertainment.

something else about these

Where's the "Party Crowd" Been... Livin' In Fast Forward
Remember the hit single Party Crowd, which had every beer joint in the country rockin' when it played on the jukebox? Well, just in case you don't, we've found the video for a quick flashback to 1995. Party Crowd charted at #6 on Billboard, and was taken there by none other than David Lee Murphy. If the name doesn't ring a bell? Well, it sure should. Murphy also had another hit single he took all the way to #1 in 1995, titled "Dust On the Bottle." If you think this guy just faded away, you are sorely mistaken. On the contrary, Murphy has been busy writing for some of the biggest artists in Nashville today, including Kenny Chesney, Gary Allan and Blake Shelton...Just to name a few.
The song "Living in Fast Forward," which was written by David Lee Murphy and Rivers Rutherford, then performed by Kenny Chesney, was actually written in fast-forward. David Lee Murphy and Rivers Rutherford, literally eat, breathe and live the title of this song.
So it's
no surprise that it
became an immediate hit for Kenny Chesney.

ROCK N’ ROLL’S COUNTRY BOY John Fogerty
By: Ron Keessar

Legendary swamp rocker,
John Fogerty has recently
embarked on a world-wide
tour bringing back the
blaze & glory that made
Creedence Clearwater Revival
one of the most influential and memorable bands to come
out of the 60’s & early 70’s.

for the legend in concert
with this incredible review
and photospread!

Remember Woodstock? The August love fest of '69... CCR was the first band to be signed for the gig, but permission to show their concert on the historical filmed documentary wasn’t granted because of John’s displeasure in their
performance.
Today, just hang out in any club or honky-tonk across the country and guaranteed you’ll be tearin’ up the dance floor and singing along to many of their magical hits at some point in the evening.
Fogerty’s live performance at Rexall Place, Edmonton Alberta Canada last week, on July 29th had the same laid back landscape that was very typical of the early days, before pyrotechnics, Jumbo-Trons and special effect lighting. The stage was plain & simple, no head filled egos and hoopla’, just five awesome band mates backing one of the world’s greatest rock gods’ who if today, were to cut the tunes that made CCR a household name back in the day, would for the most part be pigeon holed ‘country music’.
At an amazingly young looking 62, Fogerty was dressed in blue jeans and a plaid shirt, and proved he can still rock out with the best of them.
In fact, the legend shows no signs of slowing down and rates at the pinnacle of his league when it comes to his finger pickin’ & searing guitar solos. Add to that “Fogerty's 2-foot stomp” as I like to call it, kinda’ reminds me of squashin’ June bugs or puttin’ out a slow grass fire,
John never misses a lick, his face grimacing and contorting, is really
his way of making you feel every musical note he is playing!
Opening his show with the party anthem, Travelin’ Band, fans instantly reacted with a thunderous roar and for most of the 7200 revelers it was isle dancing, hi-fivin’ and punching holes through the atmosphere. Reba is known for her elaborate costume changes but
John can lay claim to the most
guitar switcheroos. Every song saw his personal guitar tech hand over a freshly tuned and strung axe that was needed to produce that unique ‘Fogerty sound'. The red Telecaster sounded brilliant during, Green River, Lookin’ Out My Back Door, Lodi and Down On The Corner.
The gold Gibson shone through
Old Man Down The Road and
Born On The Bayou, while a blonde Gibson acoustic was needed to tame the crowd during, Have You Ever Seen The Rain and Déjà Vu, All Over Again. Fogerty even had a genuine Louisville slugger baseball bat customized into a guitar used during his 1980’s hit, Centerfield.
But a John Fogerty show could not have been complete without his explosive closing numbers, remember the Gibson’s? Well,
this one was jet black oh sooo
loud! Ready to rock through hits,
like Up Around The Bend, Fortunate Son, Bad Moon Rising and Proud Mary which of course, had all
concert goers leaving the building with mile wide smiles and rock & roll contentment within their musical souls.
John is a man of very few words, except for the occasional song setups and heartfelt, “Thankyooooo… you guys are great!" Of course, with a set list of 27 timeless treasures and an exhaustive two hour show to play,
he had to keep it to what it’s all about…the music!! Fans were thrilled to learn that the singer/songwriter is releasing
his first studio album in three years
titled, ‘Revival'. Look for this in September. Fogerty showcased his first single, Don’t You Wish It Was True for the crowd in Alberta. Judging by the applause,
sounds like another Fogerty
classic to me….
Where do I get in line???

This Weeks K.C. Concerts Produced Several Thumbs Up and one Big Thumbs Down! _____________
Well, Momma always said, "if you can't say something nice, say nothing," and that's pretty much the way we run things here at New Country Star. But to save some of our Kansas City readers from ever spending concert dollars in the wrong places, we send our staff out to scope every concert scene that makes its way through Missouri, Kansas, New York, Arizona and the surrounding areas. In fact, you never know in any crowd where there might be a New Country Star Review Columnist... So just play nice! The Bellamy Brothers, sibling duo from the late 1970's, made their way to a small town festival in the city of Independence, Missouri. Now when we say small town, maybe the city isn't so small, but the festival is sure operated as small town as they come! After covering the past weekend's HUGE concert in Bonner Springs, Kansas, where the staff of this, the largest Amphitheater in the Kansas City area, treated not only our staff, but all of the media like royalty, it was a bit of a slap in the face, to be held at bay by multi-colored plastic used-car-sale flag ropes. It was really funny enough to just have a chuckle. So, that's what our staff did. As for the entertainment, the knock-off volunteer security, was fervently guarding the old sibling duo, which was also a bit humorous, considering more than half of those seated were just there to take a load off after walking the streets of this downtown carni-fest. No mobs were swarming the duo's bus, and no groupies were gathered. So, there is a good chance some of you may not even remember them, but the brothers themselves would be shocked to hear this. In fact, we always find it pretentious when an artist has no time for fans but plenty of merch for sale on site. These old boys had decided they had no time for media or fans. They were doing the crowd a favor by just standing at the mics singing their old hits of the 1970's and 80's. With a couple of their new gospel tunes thrown in, which they were heavily pushing the crowd to purchase. It's always sad to see the old musicians with the hugest egos that think their just too big to be bothered by media or fans. Listen up artists....YOU are never to big to be bothered by either. It is part of what you do for a living, so take off your imaginary crowns and be human, or at least fake it and a little humility, as well. You'll do much better in reviews, and afterall, you never know who is watching. The saddest thing we spotted tonight was a youngster who turned out with guitar in hand, apparently ready to play one of their old hits. For a young person to take interest in music from another generation is impressive, so we were watching closely as this kid followed along lick by lick with every tune from the front row. Unbelievably, not only did the Brothers give the child the brush off, but they asked the make- shift security of the small town festival to have the boy sent out into the crowd. The Bellamy Brothers have really changed, well maybe not, it is possible they were always this arrogant. We always look for something positive in every performance and for every review. And we did find him, lead guitar player Randy Hiebert. Randy carried the duo through their Kansas City performance by turning their old hits into, rockin' tunes a 2007 crowd could jam to. The Bellamy Brothers sure won't earn any blue ribbons for being fan/media friendly and no NCS staffer in attendance at their show can recommend in good conscience that this is a good use of concert dollars. Luckily, this was a free show, so the crowd got music, but they sure didn't get any meet & greets, or even acknowledgement from the duo for their attendance, but you can be sure the brothers made a few bucks in merchandise sales. Watch your dollars concert goers, make sure you really want to support an artist before buying T-Shirts, CDs, and other memorabelia.

Miranda Lambert and Bass Player Aden Bubeck
The weather was beautiful, and the entertainment was incredible Sunday, August 26th for what turned out to be an amazing event at the Verizon Amphitheater in Bonner Springs, Kansas.
Miranda Lambert took to the stage with her rockin' country band, pictured above with her bass player, Aden Bubeck typically known for his perfectly coiffed mohawk.
David Pichette Fiddle Player for Emerson Drive
The rockin' country group from Canada, Emerson Drive, most widely known for their smash hit "Moments," took to the stage and had the full attention of everyone in the audience. It certainly didn't hurt when fiddle player, David Pichette, made a leap off the stage into the audience to play a fiddle solo standing on a chair in the middle of the crowd.
